Mae Sayoko Ida, 79, of Captain Cook died Dec. 9 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired business representative for Hawaiian Tel and the “Proud Mom” of Kona Chips. Friends may call at 9 a.m. Dec. 22 at Kona Hongwanji Mission in Kealakekua for a 10 a.m. memorial service. Casual attire; No flowers. Elizabeth “Liz” Jean Bowen, 89, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 12 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Tacoma, Wash., she was a retired dietician. Service to be held in Washington. Darrel Curtis Coats, 66, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 3 at his residence. Born in Los Angeles, Calif., he was a comedian, singer, retired long-haul truck driver, a former cook and a Navy Merchant Marine veteran. Private services. Survived by wife, Nancy Coats of Kailua-Kona; son, Christopher Coats of Texas; sister, Ronita Coats; step-daughter, Maile Lewis both of Albuquerque, N.M.; two step-grandchildren, numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
